Lord Sebastian Coe proved to be a stunning guest yesterday at the LSC where he entertained royally another packed dining room in Mayfair with stories of his life. The double Olympic 1500m champion who then won London the 2012 Olympics and chaired the organising committee to ensure the Games were a stunning success, shared stories of his great rivalry with Steve Ovett, how he lost races he should have won and how he took Olympic gold, his father and coach's hard-nosed approach to his training and, of course, the full story behind winning the London Games, persuading the Queen to play her part, and his huge relief when the Olympics proved so successful.
Joining Lord Coe in the room were round the world yachtswoman Tracy Edwards, popular snooker star and pundit Willie Thorne, and former England cricketers Nick Compton and Tim Munton.
Mandy Bostwick for the National Centre for Trauma Charity also spoke passionately before we staged a fundraiser inaid of our all servicemen and women traumatised by their experiences.
